One of the things I really enjoy doing is a photo session on a college campus! I don’t know what it is about college campuses for me, but I like visiting them when I have the opportunity on my trips. I had a good time touring the University of Colorado on a fun Denver/Boulder vacation with a friend. I’ve had the honor of seeing a friend graduate at Harvard Law School, which is a very beautiful campus. In addition to visiting other college campuses around the country, I toured the University of Milan in Italy.
When Morgan and Gavin said that they wanted to do part of their engagement shoot at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA, I was very excited! Surprisingly, I had never been to the campus but that was about to change. They had met while attending the school which is why CWU had special meaning to them.
After seeing the weather forecast calling for snow and a high of 17 degrees, I wondered if Morgan and Gavin still wanted to do the shoot. Because they’re from the east side of the state, I knew they were probably game. Sure enough, they let me know they were ready to go grab some shots in the cold. The only problem I had was my car finding it too cold to spray my windshield with cleaner when I was driving on the mountain pass from Seattle. The spray nozzles had frozen and made it challenging to see but I was able to make it to Ellensburg with just enough area of windshield to see through.
As you can see from the photos below, they had fun in the cold. I did as well. Gavin was brave by only wearing a polo shirt on some shots in 17 degree weather! Fortunately, the sun was trying to break through the snow clouds most of the day which created beautiful diffused light. Then the snow started to fall towards the end of our shoot at Suncadia resort which created a nice effect. Although most people would not call this a good day for a photo shoot due to the cold temperature, it was just another nice day to be outdoors for this couple.
I look forward to more photo shoots at this college and others, especially WSU! I had an equally fun time on an engagement shoot at WSU, my alma mater, last summer. You can see a few photos from that shoot here: WSU engagement photo session. If you would like to book a shoot with me at your college, please contact me to learn more.
