When I first met Kristy and Ryan, I thought to myself, “What a super nice couple!” After getting to know them through their engagement session, the consultation before their wedding, and on their wedding day, I have to say they are a perfect match of two nice people!
The day began with blue skies and a warm temperature for the Northwest. We started photos of the bride and groom getting ready at the Pickering Barn. I hadn’t photographed a wedding there since 2011 so it was good to get back to this nice venue and see what new photos I could come up with for this couple.
We did the first look behind the reception hall in a private wooded area so that it would give them an intimate moment that they could share with each other before the ceremony. I personally recommend this for couples because it allows them to have a private time together where the groom gets to see his bride in her dress for the first time and she gets to enjoy his reaction to how she looks in the dress. I typically set the couple up in a spot with good lighting and a nice backdrop and try to make it so that it’s as quiet and private as possible. I prefer this over the old tradition of the groom seeing his bride for the first time walking down the aisle. In that situation, they don’t get to enjoy the emotions with each other and talk about them in a secluded area.
After the first look, we did photos of the wedding party around the grounds of the Pickering Barn followed by the family photos. Once the family photos were finished, the ceremony took place inside the barn. Afterwards, everyone went to the Hay Barn next door for hotdogs with just about every fix’n you could imagine along with some doughnuts from Legendary Doughnuts. It was great to see everyone having fun on the dance floor mixing it up with each other and the younger ones getting their moves on! I think this wedding broke the record for the number of people stealing a dance with the bride. It seemed like everyone wanted to dance with her!
A big thank you to my second photographer, Jared, for his hard work in capturing some great moments with me at this beautiful and fun wedding. Congratulations to Kristy and Ryan!!!
